Good News: Court Rules in Favor of After-School Bible Clubs

A federal court ruled Monday that a Christian club can hold after-school Bible studies at Virginia public schools, following a lawsuit by Liberty Counsel.

The court said the Williamsburg-James City County school board engaged in discrimination when it charged Child Evangelism Fellowship a fee to hold its Good News Club on campus, while allowing Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other organizations to meet for free.

"Every public school ought to have a Good News Club," said Mathew Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel. "The kids love them, parents appreciate them and the First Amendment protects them.

"Of all places, Good News Clubs should have been welcome in Williamsburg and James City — the birthplaces of American liberty. Now, they are welcome."

Many think God's intervention can revive the dying PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 18 August 2008

When it comes to saving lives, God trumps doctors for many Americans. An eye-opening survey reveals widespread belief that divine intervention can revive dying patients. And, researchers said, doctors "need to be prepared to deal with families who are waiting for a miracle."

More than half of randomly surveyed adults — 57 percent — said God's intervention could save a family member even if physicians declared treatment would be futile. And nearly three-quarters said patients have a right to demand such treatment.

When asked to imagine their own relatives being gravely ill or injured, nearly 20 percent of doctors and other medical workers said God could reverse a hopeless outcome.

charlton_heston_plays_mosesSo what did the man who played Moses have to say about the biblical Moses?

The answer came this week in The Daily Mirror, The Times' blog about the paper's coverage of the past. After Charlton Heston died April 5 at the age of 84, blogger Larry Harnisch unearthed an article from Oct. 28, 1956, headlined "Moses Film Role Awes Performer."

The occasion was the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments," in which Heston portrayed the prophet.

Planned Parenthood Kills Record Number of Preborn Babies PDF Print E-mail

Planned_parenthood_logoIn Kansas, judge delays hearing on 107 criminal charges.

A record 289,650 preborn babies were killed at Planned Parenthood clinics in fiscal year 2006-07, an increase of nearly 25,000 from 2005-06. The nation's largest abortion provider, which received $336 million in taxpayer money last year, is responsible for 25 percent of all abortions in the U.S.

Jenn Giroux, president of Women Influencing the Nation, said the numbers in the 2006-07 annual report show Planned Parenthood is clearly a for-profit business.

“What jumped out at me more than ever was the amount of our tax dollars — one third of their budget — (from) taxpayers that completely disagree with killing unborn children,” she told Family News in Focus. “It is horrifying, and taxpayers aren’t going to stand for it much longer.”

In Kansas, life advocates are taking action. The Overland Park Planned Parenthood clinic is facing 107 criminal charges, filed by Johnson County, Kan., Prosecutor Phill Kline. And notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller has also been under investigation.
