Why So Little Cross Action?

May 26, 2006

Several JesusJournal.com readers have written asking why there is so little action in regard to the Mount Soledad cross.

The fact is, there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes right now. It was only two days ago that the San Diego City Council voted to fight this case. Meanwhile, Christian groups around the U.S. have been making plans to join the battle. Organization of this magnitude takes time.

Have there been protests at the cross already? Only minor ones by very small groups, not the mass support we expect to see later. There have also been a number of press conferences held at the foot of the cross by those seeking the involvement of others. However, the last major one was held May 7 when San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, the city's former police chief, said he was committed to supporting the mandate of the people of San Diego who have voted overwhleming to keep the cross.

Keep in mind that the order by Judge Thompson takes effect on August 1, 2006. That's when the $5,000 per day fine begins. If there is no federal intervention by that time, expect a major demonstration by Christians to keep the Mount Soledad cross in place.

Please continue to pray that our governmental and judicial leaders will come to their senses and allow the cross to remain though normal legal channels. Also pray that Christians will be bold enough to converge on Mount Soledad in an unprecedented protest if our concerns go unheard.

Words To Live By

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives." - The Bible: 1 John 1:8-10
