It was a hectic day as usual at work with deadlines, meetings, phone calls, reports, etc....when an email arrived in my inbox from my Manager with a co-worker's name in the Subject field. The time between seeing the email subject and clicking to open the email seemed like eternity.  Time seemed to literally stand still as a name in an email Subject Field usually meant bad news of some sort.  Unfortunately, this time was no exception.

A co-worker in one car and his family in another car in front of him were traveling home from an out of town funeral.  They would only be home long enough to pack and then set out for a family vacation.  Their plans were abruptly changed when a tractor-trailer ran a stop light and hit the car with his wife and two kids in it.  This co-worker watched the whole thing un-fold.  He could not imagine that anyone in his family had survived such a horrific accident.  He was partially correct in that his youngest child did not survive the accident.  No words can express the heartfelt sympathy that goes out to this family.  I, as well as many others, will continue to lift them in prayer.

This man, even after having just lost his child, expressed how he felt blessed.  'How' do you say could he feel blessed in such heart-wrenching circumstances?  He felt blessed because God spared him the lose of his entire family.

Could we respond in the same way if we were faced with such heart-wrenching circumstances?  Would we 'choose' to respond this way instead of in a less God honoring way?

It is circumstances like I have mentioned above that seem to draw us back to what is truly important in life, however, why does it take such circumstances.  Despite the circumstances and often our lack of understanding we are called to trust in Him in ALL circumstances even in the most horrific ones.

My Pastor has a phrase he often says, "God is sovereign and you can trust Him."

Will you?

Words To Live By

"This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look -- ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." - The Bible: Jeremiah 6:16
