Synopsis: The story of a high-flying lawyer who gets shot in a convenience store robbery. His injury causes him to forget his old life and the things he discovers about it astound him. In excellent performances by Ford and Bening we see what happens to a couple when they have too much money and too few values. But the random act of violence changes Henry’s view of life and the couple is able to get back to basics before they lose it all. This story may bring a tear to the eyes of some, but is likely to bring hope to all.

Trivia: Harrison Ford worked for about seven years as a carpenter while pursuing a career as a fledgling actor. He really didn’t get noticed until he played Bob Falfa in George Lucas’ American Graffiti in 1973. Lucas used him in the role of Han Solo in Star Wars in 1977 and since then he has become an American acting icon. His “cool” image as Bob Falfa was assumed by Henry Winkler as “The Fonz” when American Graffiti was converted to the little screen as Happy Days.

1. Describe Henry’s life before he was shot.

2. Before he was shot, Henry was blinded by many things and was out of touch with reality. Is this normal for human beings according to 2 Corinthians 3:12-17?

3. When people become followers of Jesus, they get a “shot of love” and are able to live transformed lives according to passages like John 3:16 and Romans 12:2. How would you relate Henry’s experience to what is spoken about in these passages?

4. Henry’s wife Sarah would have been justified in dumping Henry. Why do you think she didn’t?

5. Henry wanted to spend more time with his daughter after his transformation and went to the boarding school to get her. Why do you think a transformation generally leads people to want to be together rather than be apart?
