Christian drama, whether plays or skits, can have an enormous impact. You can do street or nursing home performances, church skits, community productions or start a touring group.
New to church drama and not sure about how to go about it? We recommend the series of articles by Debra Bruch, Associate Professor of Theater at Michigan Technological University.
There are hundreds of places to get scripts, but we have tried to cut through the dross and provide selected quality resources. Many are free, but some require a fee. |
Bob Snook's Free Christian Scripts. A member of Saddleback Church in California who has a sense of humor and a gift for writing scripts. Over 700 scripts, most with short, high impact messages.
CreativeChurch in Britain offers a wide range of scripts on such subjects as Christmas, Easter, forgiveness, loneliness, marriage, materialism. You can specify searches for number of actors, mime or dialog, comedy or serious, for school assemblies, street work, church services or seeker events. Small fee for access to all.
Dave Marsh Slice Of Life Scripts. Free mini-scripts from Marsh, formerly with Willow Creek Church. He offers some great issues-oriented scripts and some very worthwhile philosophies about drama and dramatic writing.
DramaShare. Christian performance megasite. Includes sections on drama, puppetry, clowning, and miming. Has material for younger audiences, storytelling, everyday productions, even dinner theater. No royalty but small fee.
Nailscars.com. A great site for those who minister to Generation X. They have a small but high quality collection of free scripts, and some excellent advice for those ministering to this large social group. Skits include stuff like "The Sports Center Gospel" and "Nintendo Gospel."
Scripts By Warren. Warren Sager shows real talent here. Most of his plays are full length but could easily be done by churches or school groups. Some are educational, as they are about heroes of the faith. He does charge a fee, but a very fair one.
Willow Creek Church Drama Ministry. Resources from the people who have been largely responsible for the renewal of drama in the church, particularly as an integral part of the sermon in a worship service. They list their favorite "slice of life" dramas for you to purchase from them. |
