Was Jesus ever married?

Some people think Jesus may have been married before he began his ministry. This is in keeping with the tradition of Jesus' time when women married at about age 14 with their husbands being three or four years older. If Jesus was married, what happened to his wife? Those who speculate about such matters think she may have died, or simply had such a distaste for his views that she kept her distance. There is no mention of any such woman in the Bible.

Why then would people speculate about an early marriage? It's probably because Jesus held such a high view of the institution of marriage. He said that a man and woman should become one, as taught in Genesis, but went even further in suggesting that if God joined a couple together, then the relationship should not be "put asunder" by any act of man (Matthew 19:6). It has seemed to some that anyone who held such a high view of marriage must had also desired to be a practitioner as well.

These considerations aside, there is no factual evidence to indicate that Jesus was ever married. He lived his earthly life as a single man.

Words To Live By

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives." - The Bible: 1 John 1:8-10
